History of Seattle

Seattle is the state of Washington that is situated in the northern part of United States. It is the largest city known in the Northwest Pacific. It is a piece of land that is a barrier between the fresh water of lake Washington and the salty ocean water of Puget Sound. It is the city that has multiple types of surroundings like mountain ranges, lakes and ocean. It is a city that has a very interesting history which is full of major ups and downs. These ups and downs have played a very important role in the construction of the city. Every crisis helped the city to grow better then it was before. The earliest settlements are said to be about 4000 years old and those settlements have no such impact on the area as the history tells us. Its main importance has been known after the Europeans came in the area and made settlements and organized the place as an ordered city.

It all started in 1850’s. It was not called Seattle from the beginning this name was proposed in 1853 by a man named as Doc Maynard.
The town was initially by the lumber mill that was set up in the area and was the only industry in the area at that time. As there are a lot of natural resources like coal, gold, precious stones and many other things like that. So the city has been the centre of attention for the people who were interested in business. The discovery of coal was also one of the major reasons for the enormous growth of the city and the growth of business. The port of Seattle has is very vital in the development of the city as it was one of the busiest ports for the trade with Far East and Asian countries. It has been also important due to its strategic location that is near to Alaska and Canada. The railway was also introduced in the city in 1870 but was a little far from the city due to its geographical location but it was solved after some time.

The city had also some very disastrous crisis like the deadly fire of June 1889 almost destroyed most of the city centre because most of the buildings at that time were made of wood as wood the forests were scattered all around the area. This fire destroyed the city but also gave new ideas to the care takers of the city to develop it into a more systematic way and more efficient way. The city was again built and more facilities were given to the city. That resulted in the growth of the city1897 was also very important year in the history of city when gold was discovered near Klondike River. This discovery once again made the city very popular for business and also of new residents came here to settle. The economic state of the city was stabled a lot. People from different communities came to settle here in search of better living.
